When it comes to parking domain names, the early bird gets the worm. People come up with brilliant ideas all of the time and they snap up domain names when they get that idea. Those folks who have awesome thoughts and fail to act on them are simply missing out on a great business opportunity. Even if you are thinking about an idea and you aren’t ready to do it quite yet, then going ahead and registering that domain name can be a very good idea. It will save you the frustration of having to deal with a lost domain name when the time is right to start with your business.

That’s where domain parking comes into play. When you participate in domain parking, you go ahead and register a domain name, effectively reserving that valuable space for your future endeavor. The difference in this process is that you don’t have to enter the server of your hosting company quite yet. This is basically a place holder. It keeps that space open, giving a default page if anyone tries to access your domain. Then, when you are ready to create a website and register a hosting server, you can do it easily.

Sometimes, you can register a domain name and know that you aren’t looking to make any moves with that domain name for quite a while. You have the idea, but you aren’t willing or able to act on it for an extended period of time. When this is the case, then you should go ahead and try to find a domain parking service. Domain parking services are popular because they allow you to make revenue off of your sitting website. It won’t just sit there idly. It will earn traffic revenue while you prepare to begin the business venture.

Many of these domain parking services work by using a form of revenue sharing. When traffic comes through your parked domain name, it will be redirected to a search page or some other form of pay per click advertising page. If anybody clicks on an ad or performs a search on one of those pages, then you earn money as the domain parking service earns money. This is a win-win situation that allows your parked domain name to work while it’s not working. After all, making a little bit of revenue is always better than making no revenue.

There are some downfalls to the domain parking services, though. For unpopular domain names that people wouldn’t normally type, you won’t pick up much traffic. Then you will probably just be wasting your time. If you are lucky enough to have a very popular domain name, then it is the way to go. In this case, people will directly type in your domain name or they will be redirected to your page because of a misspelled word. If you have a parked domain with less capability, then you will probably just want to go with the default landing page provided by the registrar.

In its simplest form, domain parking represents a chance to grab a domain name and leave it sitting until you are prepared to move forward with the website. Sometimes, you will have that parking page where your visitors will see the default message. If you do choose to use a domain parking service, then your visitors will be redirected to the ad page, which can bring some great reward to your wallet.
